Happy new family

Happy new family
Originally uploaded by scott and renee
Renee went into serious labor at around 11am yesterday. Of course, I had already gone into work to get a few things done. She called and said, the contractions seem serious, but take your time. So I stopped for some sandwhiches and dropped the movies off at Blockbuster and got home to find my wife doing some significant work. The contractions were already 3 or 4 minutes apart and lasting 1 to 2 minutes. After a few minutes I called the doctor and she agreed we should come in. This was all well and good, but I still had two perfect uneaten sandwiches! So we got to the hospital a bit after Noon and when I asked Renee what to do with the sandwhiches, I got the look. They were quickly deposited in closest garbage and we walked up to Triage. They tell you to expect to be there about 4 hours. They had to rush to find us a delivery room after about one. Renee was doing great, but the contractions continued to escalate in both intensity and length. She was dilated 6 centimeters when we got to the hospital and was quickly at 8 by the time we got to the room. Our baby plan was to try to have the baby without drugs, but we were open to it if things got bogged down. Renee's speed pretty much precluded us from that option. The doctor hadn't arrived yet, but had been paged and was rushing to get there. The staff at Swedish hospital did a great job, but we're always about 15 minutes behind Renee's progress. They just couldn't believe this was our first. The last centimeter took a little while, but Madeline was born at 2:22pm. She weighed 6lbs 15.3oz's and was 19.5 centimeters long (Sorry Mom, they measured wrong the first time.) She is beautiful as you can see and practically perfect in every way. Though we barely have more than one day of data, it is clear she likes to eat ... at night, and sleep ... during the day. We'll see if we can get the scheduled flip flopped. She isn't fussy as long as she's held and has a good pair of lungs, like her mom. Though we could have stayed another night, we decided to come home this afternoon. Renee's Mom, Roberta, has come down from Vancouver to help and we really appreciate all she's doing. My mom will come up from California in a few weeks. Thanks for all your well wishes and more pics will follow. We love our precious little girl.

Peace at last!

Baby's room 1

Baby's room 1

Here are a couple pics of the Baby's room. We didn't paint, but the curtains, rug, blanket, etc. all have dragonflys on them. This is pretty cool and I'm just happy everything isn't pink. We have more stuff than I can imagine we will need, but everyone says we will use it all. Renee is already a couple centimeters dilated and has periodically had light contractions, but so far it's all been a tease. It's cooled off over the last couple days, but this weekend is supposed to get back into the high 70's. That's hot for Seattle and not appreciated by anyone almost 9 months pregnant.

Here's the latest of Renee. Though we're a couple weeks from the due date, we're hoping our little baby girl is eager to join us on the outside. Chester is ready too. One of our baby class teachers told us that Chester probably knew Renee was pregnant before we did, but that's he's expecting puppies.
